Haringey Consult

The Haringey Community & Police Consultative Group (the CPCG) was established in 1981. The core function of the CPCG is to engage, raise awareness and consult with a range of stakeholders, communities on matters of local concern and reform programmes.

Over its 26 years the CPCG community consultation work has won plaudits from government ministers for 'understanding that real consultation involves listening as well as speaking'.

Our consultation exercises, be they large or small scale, have set high standards in public participation. We ensure all sectors of the community have a say by taking the consultation to them, rather than waiting for the local community to come to us. We particularly specialise in liaising with young people and people from BME communities, as well as engaging with the wider community in an open and transparent way, ensuring that we consult widely enough to satisfy local stakeholders and officers.

We believe consultation involves educating people. It involves listening to everyone (not just the loudest). Most importantly, it involves learning from people, not blindly defending the original proposal.

Under its umbrella the CPCG have created a high level consultative mechanism called ‘Haringey Consult’. The hub of Haringey Consult independent approach is to undertake community consultation on specific matters as directed by the commissioning body. What can we do for you?

• Mass-participation community consultation

• Questionnaires and leaflet surveys

• Community and stakeholder liaison

• One 2 one interviews

• Facilitating stakeholder workshops and focus groups

• Community events
